• Construction begins to turn former Lorton landfill into new public park (ffxnow.com) — Work is underway to turn the former Lorton Landfill on Furnace Road into Overlook Ridge Park, a 250-acre public space with trails, playground, amphitheater, and sweeping Potomac River views opening in 2027. Fairfax County officials say safety and methane monitoring are built into the plan, and local advocates see the project as a major new investment in Lorton's parks and open space.
   

• Private Equity-Backed United Air Temp Announces Mass Layoffs (achrnews.com) — United Air Temp will close its Lorton headquarters on Nov. 10, cutting 96 local jobs as part of more than 100 layoffs across Virginia and Maryland. About half the Lorton reductions are service and technician roles, and Fairfax County is directing affected workers to job training, employment services, and financial assistance resources to help them through the transition.
