Don Scalf Award Recipient a Lorton Native
Caitlyn Jansen, a Lorton native, received the Don Scalf Award for her success as a volleyball player at Christopher Newport University

Caitlyn Jansen, a Lorton native, was awarded the USA South Athletic Conference Don Scalf Award for her academic achievements and success as a Volleyball player at Christopher Newport University. Jansen finished her collegiate time at Christopher Newport this past fall as a two time All-American middle blocker.
The Don Scalf Award recognizes a male and female student athlete each year. The student must have achieved at least a 3.0 GPA while having all-conference recognition. The USA South Conference Athletic Directors vote for the winner at the end of conference finals. The award honors Don Scalf, a NC Wesleyan coach and athletic director who founded the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Jansen graduated from Christopher Newport this spring with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a 3.12 GPA. She was active in off-court activities such as serving as a youth leader for Fairfax County summer camps and Kid’s Day activities at CNU. She earned USA South Conference All-Academic accolades twice during her collegiate time.

On the court, Jansen led CNU to NCAA Division III quarterfinals twice. In 2009, she was Conference Player of the Year and was the NCAA Regional Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2010.
