George Washington Service & Breakfast

Pohick Church, the colonial church of George Washington, will hold a special commemorative service on February 18th to mark the national observance of Washington’s birthday. The service will use the Order for Morning Prayer from the 1662 English Book of Common Prayer, which is the service Washington and other founders of the nation would have used in their regular Sunday worship at Pohick. There will be two modifications: organ music and hymn singing, which were not typical in colonial churches during Washington’s time, will be added, and prayers for the English monarch and royal family, which were a regular part of colonial worship,  will be omitted.

The service begins at 8:00 AM, and will be followed by a breakfast and guest speaker hosted by the Pohick chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. Tickets for the breakfast are  $10 per person or $25 per family, and will be available at the door. Pohick’s Docent Guild will conduct tours of the church following the breakfast.
