“Anne of Green Gables,” based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel about a Canadian orphan, was published in 1908. This adaptation by Joseph Robinette, published in 1989 is a favorite of many high school theatre departments. The play revolves around a talkative redheaded orphan, Anne (played by Kelsey Davis), who is mistakenly sent to live with the middle-aged siblings Marilla (Ruth Sherr) and Matthew Cuthbert (Brennan Bridger).
The brother and sister live on Green Gables, a farm that needs the help of a strong boy. Anne may not be a boy, but she is strong willed! During the play, we meet the town gossip, Rachel Lynde (Maggie Dickinson), Anne’s ministers, teachers, classmates and best friend Diana Barry (Katie Murray). Anne has a marvelous imagination and though it often conflicts with social expectations of the day, it is what endears our hearts to her. See her blossom from a young girl who thrives on sentimentality to a young woman that graciously handles all of the harsh realities life can bring.

It is a touching story appropriate for the entire family. Elementary aged children will especially enjoy this show!
