Fairfax County Girl, 7, Drowns at Lorton Pool on Memorial Day: Report

A 7-year-old girl, Fatmata Kamara, known as Effey, drowned Monday at the Lorton Station Community Pool, according to a report by NBC-4.

The TV station reports that the child did not know how to swim, was at the pool with friends and that her parent(s) were not there. The child’s mother, Aminata Porter, was called to the pool after a lifeguard and others at the pool pulled the girl from the water and tried to save her, NBC-4 said. She later died at the hospital, the report said.

Effey was a second-grader at Lorton Station Elementary School, according to a GoFundMe page set up to cover the cost of a funeral.

So far, 89 people have made donations to the fund; the goal is $5,000 and $3,405 has been raised.
