Fireworks, Music, Food + Art Scheduled Saturday in Lorton

Workhouse Art Center plans an extravaganza for Saturday in Lorton.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, July 2, launched from the Workhouse Art Center’s historic, 55-acre campus in Lorton.

Beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, guests are invited to gather at the Workhouse to explore nine art galleries and the studios of more than 65 on-campus resident artists. Galleries and studio buildings will remain open until just before the start of the fireworks extravaganza to ensure that everyone has a chance to enjoy the many examples of painting, sculpture, fiber arts, glass and ceramic arts, photography, and other art forms on display across our campus.

Twenty food trucks will also be on hand Saturday selling beer and wine as well as non-alcoholic beverages. The Silver Diner Family Fun Zone will include Moon Bounces and exciting lawn games for children. Rounding out the day’s activities is a fun line-up of musical performances including a free Mount Vernon Nights performance at 7 p.m. by Peter Mawanga and the Amaravi Movement followed by the PBC Vocal Band at 8:15 p.m. The fireworks show itself will be accompanied by a patriotic medley just after 9 p.m.
