Garage Fire Displaces Family Of 6 In Lorton

LORTON, VA — A garage fire displaced a family of six on Friday afternoon in Lorton, according to officials.

Firefighters responded to the 9200 block of Blue Steel Way shortly after 1 p.m. for reports of a house fire, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said in a news release.

When crews arrived, they found flames coming from an attached garage that had spread into the two-story home.

Firefighters searched the residence and quickly brought the fire under control, containing most of the damage to the garage, the department said.

The home's six occupants — two adults and four children — safely escaped before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
