Lorton Area 3-Vehicle Crash Results In Fatality

BREAKING: Southbound Richmond Highway is closed at Belvoir Road due to the three-vehicle crash.

LORTON, VA — A three-vehicle crash has resulted in a death Friday on Richmond Highway in the Lorton area, according to Fairfax County Police.

The crash involving three vehicles happened around 1:20 p.m. on Richmond Highway (Route 1) at Pohick Road. Three vehicles were involved, and one man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Preliminary investigations found a Chevrolet Silverado heading south on Richmond Highway prior to Pohick Road rear-ended a Subaru Forester stopped at the red light. The Silverado continued into the intersection striking a Chevrolet Colorado that was attempting to make a left turn from Pohick Road to southbound Richmond Highway.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Ralph J. Edwards III, 33, of Mason Neck, was pronounced dead at the scene. Five others were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
