UPDATE: Police ID Pedestrian Killed Thursday Morning in Lorton
Incident took place on Lorton Road and Armistead Street in Lorton.
UPDATE 1:30 p.m.: Police responded to the intersection of Lorton Road and Armistead Road on Thursday shortly after 5 a.m. for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
Patrol officers arrived, along with fire and rescue units. They assessed the situation and summoned Crash Reconstruction Detectives to the scene.
The initial investigation determined that a 70-year-old Lorton man, Farman Batalia, was walking across Lorton Road near the intersection of Armistead Road, according to police. At that time, a 2003 GMC truck, driven by a 63-year-old Lorton man, was traveling east on Lorton Road at Armistead Road, police said.

The truck hit Batalia in the eastbound lanes of Lorton Road, police said. The driver of the truck remained on the scene and checked on the victim, according to police. Batalia was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. It has not yet been determined if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, according to police. It is also unknown at this time if Batalia was in a crosswalk, police said. The investigation continues.
