Police Report Fatal Crash in Lorton Area

Area resident Juan Gomez, 24, died after crashing his car into a tree on Pohick Road just past Lorton Station, according to police.

Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred in the Lorton area around 4:18 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police Department.

Juan Gomez, 24, of the Lorton area, was operating a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound on Pohick Road just past Lorton Station, at a high rate of speed, according to police. He lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking a tree on the passenger side.

A nearby resident heard the crash and called police. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. Speed is a factor in the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor. Gomez was not wearing his seatbelt.
