Police: Truck Crash Claims Life of Lorton Man

A Lorton man died Saturday night after crashing in the truck he was driving, according to police.

Police responded to the report of a single-vehicle crash late last night about 11 p.m. in the 8300 block of Alban Road.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit determined that Jose De Jesus Caballero, 29, of Lorton, was operating a 2007 Ford F 150 pickup truck southbound on Alban Road in the left lane when he drifted across the double-yellow line and continued off the road to the left, according to police.

The truck struck a guardrail, rolled down an embankment and struck a tree which caused the roof to collapse, police said. The roof collapse crushed the driver and pinned him inside the vehicle; he died at the scene, police said.

Speed does not appear to be a factor, according to police. The investigation continues to determine what might have caused and the crash and if alcohol was a factor, police said.
