Two-Alarm Fire At Disposal Facility Under Control in Lorton: Fire & Rescue

The fire began around 9 p.m. at Covanta Fairfax Waste to Energy Facility, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. No injuries reported.

LORTON, VA — A two-alarm fire Thursday night at the Covanta Fairfax Waste to Energy Facility, in the 9800 block of Furnace Road, has been brought under control, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Three stories of trash caught fire. Employees were able to escape and no injuries were reported, and the cause is being investigated.

Officials say it may take days before the fire is fully extinguished.
