FAA Spends Nearly $1.5B on Airport Upgrades in August (flyingmag.com) — Lynchburg travelers can expect a significantly upgraded experience at Lynchburg Regional Airport thanks to $8 million in new FAA funding for terminal expansion, better passenger flow, and accessibility improvements. The grant is part of nearly $1.5 billion in nationwide airport upgrades, positioning the city's airport for future growth and more comfortable, efficient screening and boarding.
   

2. Lynchburg Police Department Announces 2026 Citizens Police Academy (lynchburgvapolice.gov) — The Lynchburg Police Department is taking applications for its free 10‑week Citizens Police Academy starting September 10, giving residents a close look at investigations, forensics, K‑9 work, and use-of-force policies. Space is limited, so interested community members should submit applications in person at LPD Headquarters on Odd Fellows Road by September 4.
   

3. Lynchburg City Council candidates speak out after campaign sign vandalized with antisemitic imagery (wsls.com) — A Lynchburg City Council campaign sign backing three Democratic candidates was defaced with profanity and antisemitic symbols near Vassar Street and Langhorne Road, prompting a police investigation. The candidates say they're encouraged by how quickly Lynchburg residents reported the vandalism, helped remove the sign, and voiced support for rejecting hate in local politics.
   

4. Lynchburg City Schools takes students out of class in dress code crackdown (wset.com) — Parents in Lynchburg City Schools say a newly enforced dress code is pulling students from class over shorts and skirts just as the year begins. Families report confusion, extra clothing costs, and anxiety for girls, while the district frames the policy as part of a fairer, more consistent code of conduct.
   

5. Red is a big ol' goofball ready to make you laugh (wsls.com) — If you're looking to adopt in Lynchburg, meet Red, a three-year-old pit bull mix waiting at the Lynchburg Humane Society. He's a goofy, mostly self-entertaining pup with some hearing loss but tons of personality, and adoption fees at the shelter are half off August 22–23, making this weekend an especially good time to visit.
