• Randolph College welcomes one of largest first-year classes amid multiyear enrollment surge (wsls.com) — Randolph College in Lynchburg is welcoming one of its largest first-year classes ever this fall, bringing total enrollment to about 936 students. Leaders credit an innovative Take2 course schedule and major renovations, including a $23 million science building upgrade and ongoing work in Webb Hall. Students say the growing campus energy is changing daily life in Lynchburg's college community.
• Localities disable license plate readers amid cost, privacy concerns (wdbj7.com) — Lynchburg police are suspending use of Flock license plate reader cameras, joining several nearby localities that cite both privacy concerns from residents and the high ongoing cost of the technology. Local leaders say the move could save taxpayer dollars and rebuild public trust, but it may also make it harder to track stolen cars, find missing people, and solve serious crimes.
• Florida post color guard retains championship title (legion.org) — Lynchburg's American Legion Post 16 turned in a strong showing at the National Color Guard Contest, placing in multiple categories against top units from across the country. While a Florida post kept the overall title, Post 16's performances highlighted local veterans' dedication and skill on a prominent national stage.
