• Extra Credit: Students could receive automatic admission to more than a dozen Virginia colleges through this Common App program (cardinalnews.org) — Lynchburg residents have several new education opportunities this year, from Liberty University's new Navy and Marine Corps ROTC partnership with UVA to the University of Lynchburg's LIFE@Lynchburg lecture series for adults 50 and older starting Sept. 9. The roundup also highlights statewide direct-admission options for local students and new clear-bag policies at nearby school sporting events.
   

• Lynchburg park closes for major renovations (wset.com) — Heritage Park in Lynchburg is closing to the public starting Tuesday as the city begins a major renovation expected to last until summer 2027. Residents can expect new pickleball courts, a skatepark, upgraded paths, added lighting, and more accessible, nature-focused play areas when the park reopens.
   

• University of Lynchburg welcomes largest incoming class since 2018 (newsadvance.com) — The University of Lynchburg has enrolled 502 new undergraduates for fall 2026, its largest incoming class since 2018, bringing total enrollment to 2,291. New and expanded graduate programs, including a Doctor of Executive Leadership and an online PhD in Leadership Studies, are helping drive growth as President Sally Selden targets 2,032 undergrads by 2032.
