1. City of Lynchburg warns of surge in EBT and card skimming fraud (wsls.com) — Lynchburg officials are warning residents about a sharp spike in EBT and card-skimming fraud, with losses jumping to nearly $63,000 in August and dozens of new reports already this month. SNAP users in Lynchburg will start receiving more secure chip cards by mail beginning Sept. 11 and are urged to monitor accounts closely, change PINs often, and report suspicious transactions immediately.
2. No charges to be filed against Lynchburg officer after foot pursuit led to shots-fired incident in July (wsls.com) — Lynchburg's Commonwealth's Attorney has decided not to charge Officer Taylor Larmie after his gun accidentally fired during a July foot chase, concluding there was no criminal intent. After reviewing state police reports, body-camera footage, and interviews, prosecutors said the shot went into the ground within seconds of the pursuit, and the officer's reaction and grip supported that it was an unintentional discharge.
3. Man accused of hiding dressing room cameras faces 135 new charges, 146 victims identified (wset.com) — Lynchburg residents are being urged to come forward as a local man now faces 139 charges tied to hidden cameras allegedly placed in dressing rooms at several area businesses, with 146 victims identified so far. Police are working with Bedford and Campbell counties and continuing to review evidence, asking anyone who used affected changing rooms or bathrooms this February and March to complete a victim identification form.
4. Lynchburg-area localities pull plug on Flock cameras. Here's why. (newsadvance.com) — Lynchburg officials are ending the city's contract with Flock Safety license-plate cameras, and sheriffs in Campbell, Appomattox, and Amherst counties are following suit over privacy and surveillance concerns. Local readers can expect changes in how police investigate crimes and crashes, even as other Lynchburg-area public safety stories—from a fatal Timberlake Road crash to major court cases—continue to unfold.
5. Amtrak service in Danville to pause for nine days in October (wsls.com) — If you rely on Amtrak from Lynchburg, expect changes from Oct. 17–25, when construction near Washington's Union Station pauses some rail service and replaces it with a special express bus linking Roanoke, Lynchburg, and D.C. The Crescent train will skip Danville during this period, so Lynchburg travelers should double‑check schedules and plan ahead before normal service resumes Oct. 26.
