Fire Prevention Week highlights lithium-ion battery safety (wsls.com) — Lynchburg fire officials are using Fire Prevention Week to warn residents about the risks of lithium-ion batteries in phones, e-bikes, scooters, and lawn equipment. They urge you to unplug devices once charged, avoid cheap aftermarket chargers, keep charging gear away from exits, and maintain working smoke alarms and a family escape plan throughout October's Fire Prevention Month.
2. Lynchburg Boys and Girls Club is seeking the input of the youth who will use new facility (cardinalnews.org) — Lynchburg teens are helping design a new Boys and Girls Club teen center across from E.C. Glass High School, set to open in spring 2027 with career-focused spaces like a salon, kitchen, and podcast studio. Staff hope the dedicated site, paired with local employer partnerships and academic support, will re-engage high schoolers and prepare them for jobs in Lynchburg's industries.
3. PHOTOS: Final beam raised for Lynchburg General Hospital's new tower (newsadvance.com) — Construction at Lynchburg General Hospital reached a milestone as workers raised the final beam for the new patient tower, which is slated for completion in fall 2028. Hospital and Centra leaders joined crews on-site, marking steady progress on a project expected to expand local health care capacity for Lynchburg residents.
4. Saunders Takes Second, Hornets Place Sixth at Chimney Oaks Classic (lynchburgsports.com) — A standout performance by University of Lynchburg senior Grace Saunders led the Hornets women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Chimney Oaks Classic in Georgia. Saunders took second individually at 5-over par, while several Lynchburg teammates gained valuable tournament experience.
