1. CVPDC seeking public feedback on long-term project: Connect Central Virginia 2050 (wfxrtv.com) — Transportation planners are asking Lynchburg-area residents to weigh in now on Connect Central Virginia 2050, a long-range plan guiding how $1.3 billion in transportation funds will be spent through 2050. The CVPDC is collecting public comments and survey responses through October 19 on priorities like sidewalks, transit, bike routes, intersections, and road projects that will shape daily travel across the region.
2. VDOT Lynchburg District Weekly Traffic Alert October 12-18, 2026 (virginia.gov) — Expect significant overnight lane closures on Route 460 and around the Candlers Mountain Road/Business 29 interchange in Lynchburg from October 12–18, along with changes near Wards Ferry Road and CVCC Campus Drive. VDOT crews will also be working across nearby counties on bridge repairs, roundabout projects, and safety upgrades, so plan extra travel time if you commute through these corridors.
3. Lynchburg City Schools receives $250,000 grant for security upgrades at nine schools (wsls.com) — Lynchburg City Schools just secured a $250,000 state grant to upgrade security at nine local schools, including several elementary and middle schools across the city. Combined with $60 million from Lynchburg City Council, the division is expanding badge readers, electronic key boxes, and camera systems to better control building access and help students, staff, and families feel safer in their schools.
4. Liberty University named distinguished military campus in new Corps of Cadets program (wset.com) — Liberty University in Lynchburg has been named a Distinguished Military Campus in the new America's Corps of Cadets program, one of only five schools selected nationwide. Leaders say the designation will eventually bring a full corps of cadets, dedicated housing, uniforms, and expanded scholarships, potentially drawing more military-connected students and activity to the Lynchburg area.
5. PHOTOS: Brookville football comes back to defeat Heritage (newsadvance.com) — Brookville High rallied from a 20-point halftime deficit to edge Heritage 34–28 Friday night, highlighting a dramatic evening of local football. The coverage also notes Jefferson Forest's 69–0 shutout of Liberty and Heritage's 41–0 Jug Bowl win over E.C. Glass at Lynchburg City Stadium, spotlighting several Lynchburg-area rivalries for local fans.
