New Discount Grocery Store Coming To Manassas

MANASSAS, VA – Attention, discount shoppers! Manassas will soon have its own Grocery Outlet location, an outpost of the California chain that sells name brands at low prices.

The new store’s doors will open in July at 9500 Liberia Avenue.

Owner Rodney Morisson tells Patch, “Opening in Manassas is especially meaningful to me because I grew up in this area. Being able to return and serve the same community that helped shape me is something I take great pride in. This isn’t just about opening a store, it's about giving back and creating a place where local families can shop for quality groceries at great value.”

Founded in 1946, Grocery Outlet now operates more than 530 stores in California, Delaware, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia, according to its website. It says the majority of these stores are independently operated by local families.

Grocery Outlet currently has 6 stores in Virginia, in Falls Church, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and Suffolk. The new location in Manassas and a coming location in Indian River-Chesapeake will bring the total to 8.

The chain's business model is to work directly with suppliers to purchase surplus inventory, products in outdated packaging after packaging changes and closeout products. This allows the outlets to pass savings on to customers.

A Mashable article on the best deals at Grocery Outlet stores highlighted their name-brand ramen selection, the chance to snag seasonal or regional brand specialties not usually seen in your area, and the ability to stock up on shelf stable options from famous brands, among other deals.
