MANASSAS, VA – A vote on the planned Quantico Ridge data center, envisioned as a 160-acre complex next to the Prince William Forest Park, has been withdrawn from county consideration, according to reports.
The Prince William Times reports that Quantico Ridge’s developer, Highland Properties Manassas LLC, requested an initial vote on the project to be withdrawn from the agenda ahead of the County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday.
The developers had planned to ask the county to amend its long-term land-use plans for the property. It is currently designated for office mixed use, residential neighborhoods and parks and open space. Developers were going to request a switch to an industrial and parks and open space designation.
However, the rezoning request remains in the county’s development portal.
The Prince William Conservation Alliance hailed the step in a statement, but warned that the project isn’t dead. “While the CPA has been withdrawn, an active rezoning still lingers, so this project is likely to return,” the alliance writes. “The 51-acre parcel was already designated for data center development through the approval of the Independent Hill Small Area Plan. … This location is inappropriate for data centers and should remain agricultural, A-1.”
