Manassas Teen Arrested, Charged In Shooting Death Of 18-Year-Old Bristow Man (patch.com) — Manassas residents are learning more about June's fatal shooting on Community Drive, where 18-year-old Michael Sakyi of Bristow was found shot in a crashed car and later died. Police say a 16-year-old Manassas boy is now the second person charged with second-degree murder and a firearm offense in the case, and he is being held at the county's Juvenile Detention Center.
2. Manassas Man Gets 33 Months In Prison For Multi-Million Dollar Fraud Scheme (patch.com) — People in Manassas are hearing that local resident Alexander A. Olave has been sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for running online storefront scams that took more than $3.5 million from over 100 victims. Prosecutors say he used fake testimonials and promises of guaranteed profits through AO Elite and other companies, and he must also serve supervised release and pay restitution.
3. PWC Planning Commission Recommends Stricter Data Center Approval Process (patch.com) — Manassas-area residents may see tougher rules on where large data centers can be built after the Prince William County Planning Commission backed wider buffers from homes and schools and a smaller by-right development zone. The proposal, shaped by debate over grace periods for developers, now heads to the Board of Supervisors as public concern about data center growth intensifies.
4. Residents Across Northern Virginia Report Mysterious Foul Smell (patch.com) — People in Manassas and across Prince William County spent the weekend trading stories about a powerful foul odor in the air, described as everything from rotten eggs to sewage. Fire and Rescue crews investigated 21 suspected gas leaks, coordinated with Washington Gas and utility plants, and found no system problems, leaving the source of the smell still unknown but under monitoring.
5. Manassas pauses October 'First Friday' event after shooting kills 16-year-old girl (dcnewsnow.com) — Manassas officials have paused October's popular First Friday gathering in Old Town while they review safety after a Sept. 4 shooting there killed a 16-year-old bystander and injured a man. The city, Historic Manassas Inc., and downtown businesses will discuss potential changes at a Sept. 21 City Council work session, and residents are invited to weigh in on how future events should look.
