The city says Geosmin and MIB can be noticeable even at tiny levels but pose no health risk, and the Water Department is actively working to reduce the odor while continuing routine monitoring.

City of Manassas Pauses First Friday Celebrations After Shooting Death (northernvirginiamag.com) β Manassas officials have canceled the October First Friday event after a 16-year-old girl was fatally shot during the September celebration in Old Town, and are now rethinking how the festivals are run. Residents are urged to attend upcoming council work sessions and meetings to share ideas on safety protocols and the future of these downtown gatherings.

3. 16-year-old charged with murder in teen's fatal shooting in Irongate (princewilliamtimes.com) β A 16-year-old from Manassas has been charged with second-degree murder in the June shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Sakyi Jr., found in a crashed car in the Irongate community near Manassas Plaza. Police say this is the second arrest in the case, which unfolded in a townhome neighborhood off Sudley Road, and investigators have not yet released a motive.

Prince William County Personal Property and Business Tangible Taxes Due Oct. 5, 2026 (princewilliamliving.com) β Prince William County residents, including those in Manassas, must pay personal property and business tangible taxes by Oct. 5, 2026, to avoid a 10% late penalty and accruing interest. You can pay online, by phone, mail, or in person at the Sudley North Government Center on Ashton Avenue in Manassas, with extended office hours on Oct. 1, 2, and 5.

Join OmniRide for 40th Anniversary Community Open Houses (princewilliamliving.com) β OmniRide is inviting Manassas residents to a free 40th anniversary open house at its Doane Drive facility on October 14, featuring tours, bus rides, a mobile library, music, and family activities. Guests can enjoy food trucks, raffles, and an anniversary cake while learning about local transit services and bringing food donations for Northern Virginia Food Rescue.
