PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA – A Virginia man who kidnapped and killed his ex-girlfriend in 2023 has been sentenced to more than 250 years in prison, the Prince William County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office announced Monday.
Michael C. Davis, of Richmond, was convicted in February of multiple charges related to the abduction and murder of Tatiana David in April 2023.
According to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, on April 5, 2023, a Virginia State Police trooper in Fairfax County stopped a Jeep Cherokee believed to have been involved in an abduction from Ithaca, NY. A man later identified as Davis was driving, and a woman later identified as Davis was in the back seat.
As the trooper was verifying the Jeep's information, Davis took off, leading Virginia State Police on a more-than-20-mile pursuit into Prince William County, where Davis crashed around mile marker 148 on I-95, near Quantico. Davis began firing at police, who shot back. Davis also shot David multiple times, killing her.
The Prince William Times and others report that David was a former romantic partner of Davis and the two shared a son.
In February, Davis was found guilty of second-degree murder, abduction, three counts of attempt to commit aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer, 10 counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and felony eluding. On Friday, Davis was sentenced to 258 years with 80 years suspended, leaving 178 active years to serve.
In a release, Commonwealth's Attorney Amy Ashworth said, "Tatiana David did not deserve to die – she was abducted from her home by the defendant for reasons we may never know and we don't know what he intended to do to her. The Virginia State Police fought valiantly for her safe return and for a peaceful end to his horrific journey for her. Sadly, Mr. Davis ended her life. We are grateful no one else lost their lives on that fateful evening." She said the sentence reflects the severity of Davis' crimes.
