Zyan had spent the past eight months in hospitals and rehabilitation centers around the Washington metropolitan area. His family reported that he was finally to be discharged on Oct. 1. He was readmitted to the hospital on Oct. 7 and died on Oct. 11, the family said. The Prince William Times confirmed the news.

According to an update from his family and Vienna Foodies, which had organized benefits and support for the family, Zyan had developed a lung infection, which led to sepsis and weakened his heart, leading to his death.

Zyan's parents were unable to work for an extended time as they cared for their son and said they used money raised through the online fundraising platform to pay for travel, food, care for their other children and other household expenses. The Go Fund Me account will remain active and accept donations for Zyan's burial.
