MANASSAS, VA — Multiple guns were fired near an Old Town Manassas church where up to 200 people were attending a private gathering Friday night, damaging a parked vehicle and prompting police to search the area for possible victims.

Officers received multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots near Church Street around 11:12 p.m. on Friday. Officers already patrolling Old Town also heard the shots and immediately responded.

Police arrived to find a large crowd leaving the area near Bull Run Unitarian Church, where a private gathering of approximately 150 to 200 people had been taking place.

Officers searched the church and surrounding area for anyone who might have been injured. During the search, investigators recovered numerous cartridge casings in front of the church, indicating that more than one gun had been fired, police said.

A parked car was damaged during the incident. Based on the preliminary investigation, police do not believe the shots were directed at anyone.

Authorities warned that bullets may have traveled a significant distance from the intersection of Church and Main streets because of the direction in which they were fired.

Residents and business owners in and around Old Town are being asked to inspect their homes, cars and other property for possible damage related to the gunfire.

Anyone who discovers damage should contact the police non-emergency line at 703-257-8000.

Police cleared the area shortly after midnight Saturday and said there was no evidence of an ongoing threat to public safety.

The shooting remains under investigation. Police have not reported any arrests or identified suspects.

Anyone who witnessed the gunfire or has photos or video is asked to contact Detective Thomas Barnes at 703-257-8047. Submit anonymous tips to Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330.
