• Planners recommend approval of cell tower CUP (gazettejournal.net) — Mathews County planners have unanimously backed a Conditional Use Permit for a 197-foot cell tower on Beaverdam Road, just south of Mathews Court House, and also supported rezoning a Hudgins parcel for two home sites. Both proposals now move to the Board of Supervisors, where final decisions could shape local cell coverage and residential development.
   

• Gloucester, Mathews added to USDA drought list (gazettejournal.net) — Mathews County has been added to the USDA's Drought Disaster list, making local farmers eligible to apply for emergency loans and other federal assistance. The designation reflects severe to exceptional drought conditions during the growing season and gives producers several months to seek help tailored to their specific financial and operational needs.
