• Mathews EDA hears report from state tourism rep (gazettejournal.net) — Tourism spending in Mathews has climbed to $19.2 million annually, and local officials expect even stronger 2025 numbers as the county updates its tourism action plan. A state tourism representative briefed the Mathews Economic Development Authority and announced an Oct. 27 workshop with local businesses and the visitor center to refine strategies for attracting more visitors and revenue.
   

• Children's book tells tale of pelicans at Wolf Trap (gazettejournal.net) — Families heading to Mathews Market Days will be able to snag early copies of "The Haunted Lighthouse," a new children's book set on the Chesapeake Bay. Written by a longtime Deltaville boater and Coast Guard Auxiliary 66 volunteer in Mathews, the story kicks off a planned series about two pelican friends weathering storms at Wolf Trap Lighthouse.
   

• Scholarship donation (gazettejournal.net) — Mathews' VA250 Committee and the Court House Players have donated $8,300 to the Judy Ward Scholarship Fund, using proceeds from their recent musical "Crickets on a Hill." The gift honors Ward's role in Mathews' 1976 Bicentennial celebration and will support local high school graduates, following a well-attended July production and a video debut at Cobbs Creek Arts Center.
