ALEXANDRIA, VA — A Texas man is facing federal charges after allegedly attempting to drive into CIA Headquarters multiple times in one week, according to court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Connor Lynn Mayo was charged with criminal trespass following a series of incidents at the George Bush Center for Intelligence in Fairfax County. According to an affidavit filed by CIA police officer, the most recent encounter occurred Monday at around 9:40 a.m..
The officer reported that Mayo approached the main gate in a white Hyundai Elantra, driving past trespassing signs and a detour for authorized visitors. When a gate officer questioned Mayo for failing to provide identification, Mayo allegedly accelerated his vehicle toward the compound. Officers used what the affidavit described as a "diversionary tactic" to stop the car and redirected Mayo to a visitor center.
"MAYO stated that he had previously been to the CIA, that he understood he was trespassing, but that he believed he was intended to be at CIA," according to the affidavit.
The Monday morning incident followed two previous encounters over the weekend:
During the Sunday incident, Mayo was issued a citation and warned he would be arrested if he returned. According to the affidavit, "MAYO expressed a desire to be arrested and noted that he had visited the Pentagon the previous day".
In a status conference held Tuesday before Magistrate Judge William E. Fitzpatrick, Mayo did not appear in court. His attorney, Nate Wenstrup, requested a continuance, which was granted. Assistant U.S. Attorney Solette Magnelli appeared on behalf of the government.
The matter is scheduled for a follow-up status conference on June 25 at 10 a.m. in Alexandria before Magistrate Judge Ivan D. Davis.
