6 Ways To Celebrate Mother’s Day In McLean

MCLEAN, VA — Treating moms to brunch is one of the top ways to celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 10, but to do that, you’ll need to make reservations now at McLean restaurants.

Beyond brunch, there are other ways to celebrate Mother's Day in McLean.

The Boro, located at 8350 Broad St., will host "Mom’s Day Out" on Saturday, May 9, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event features various activities including DIY craft stations for custom bouquets, cards, and decorated frames, as well as a digital photo booth and a floral installation. The first 100 attendees will receive a complimentary mini bouquet, and live entertainment will include a musician, a bubble artist, and glitter tattoos.

Local retailers and restaurants are participating through samples and raffle prizes. Fava Pot will offer complimentary bites, while California Closets will provide treats and NOVA Plastic Surgery & Dermatology will have beauty and wellness experts on-site. Visitors can enter to win gift baskets from neighborhood retailers, with bonus entries provided for same-day purchases. The newly opened Boro Biergarten will be available for drinks, and Santouka Ramen will have small bites available for purchase.

The event is free and open to the public, though organizers encourage registration via Eventbrite. In the event of inclement weather, a rain date is scheduled for Sunday, May 10, during the same hours. Neighborhood dining options, such as Maman, will also be open with seasonal spring and summer menus.

Tysons Corner Center is offering gift guide opportunities focused on various categories for Mother’s Day. According to the center, the property lends itself to themes including "The Stylish Mom," "The Wellness Mom," "The Hostess/Homebody," "The Tech-Savvy Mom," and "The On-the-Go Mom," featuring fashion, beauty, tech, and home décor offerings.

Some restaurants to consider in the McLean area include the following:

TGI Fridays is offering a "The Queen’s Bubbly" cocktail made with La Marca Prosecco and pomegranate for $12 from May 7 to May 10. The restaurant’s menu includes a "Fridays’ Combo" where guests choose three appetizers from a list including potato skins, mozzarella sticks, and wings. Entrees such as the Million Dollar Cobb salad, Cajun shrimp and chicken pasta, and dragon-glazed salmon are also featured alongside desserts like New York cheesecake. TGI Fridays is located at 7855E Tysons Corner Center in McLean.

Sisters & Florê Café Tysons will host a Thai-inspired brunch featuring specialty dishes. The menu includes Roti Yellow Curry Crab Dipped with jumbo lump crab for $24 and Thai shrimp scampi for $28. Other options include New York steak and eggs for $38 and lemon ricotta pancakes for $17. Sisters & Florê Café is located at 7735 Capital One Tower Road in Tysons.

Big Buns will provide a free chocolate strawberry shake with the purchase of any burger, excluding children's burgers, from May 8 to May 10. Big Buns is located at 1336 Chain Bridge Road, G, in McLean

Matchbox is highlighting shareable brunch plates for Mother's Day. The menu includes a tres leches pancake stack, cinnamon rolls, shrimp and grits, and fig and prosciutto pizza. Matchbox is located at 1340 Chain Bridge Road in McLean.

The National Retail Federation said its annual Mother’s Day survey shows 63 percent of respondents plan a special outing like dinner or brunch for Mother’s Day. Behind flowers and greeting cards, a meal out is the third-most popular way to celebrate the holiday.

Americans are projected to spend approximately $6.4 billion on special outings and meals this year, a figure surpassed only by the $7.5 billion expected expenditure on jewelry, according to the survey.
