MCLEAN, VA — Giant Foods is hosting a dog adoption event Sunday, from 12 to 2 p.m. as part of National Pet Month at the store located at 1454 Chain Bridge Road in McLean.
Giant Food is partnering with the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation for the event. The grocery chain said the relationship grew through its Community Bag Program, which let shoppers support local nonprofit organizations by buying reusable bags. According to the event information, $1 from each bag was donated to a selected charity, and five Giant stores supported the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation.
Customers at the McLean store will have the chance to meet dogs available for adoption, including Luna and Roller, ages 3 and 7, respectively. Purina, Blue Buffalo and Rachel Ray Nutrish donated dog treats and will provide in-store coupons at the McLean location.
Representatives from both organizations are expected to attend, including Jody Kulstad, special events manager for the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, along with Brendy Recinos Argueta, Giant Food social media content specialist, and Jon Arons, Giant Food external communications and community relations manager.
The adoption event ties a local store promotion to a rescue partnership already connected through a charitable giving program. For shoppers in McLean, the two-hour event offers a chance to meet adoptable dogs at a neighborhood grocery store during National Pet Month.
