McLean, VA — Early in-person voting begins Thursday, June 18, for Virginia’s Aug. 4 dual primary election.
The Virginia Department of Elections has requested a primary election to nominate Democratic and Republican candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and local offices.
Voters will see different contests depending on their party primary and congressional district.
In the Democratic primary, voters in the 8th District will have a U.S. House of Representatives contest on the ballot. There will be no Democratic primary in the 10th or 11th districts.
In the Republican primary, voters in the 8th and 11th districts will have a U.S. Senate contest on the ballot. In the 10th District, Republican voters will have U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives contests on the ballot.
Since McLean is in the 8th Congressional District, voters can cast ballots in either the Republican or Democratic primaries.
Early in-person voting will run from June 18 through Saturday, Aug. 1. Election Day is Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The deadline to register to vote or update an existing voter registration is Friday, July 24., which is also the deadline to request a mail-in ballot. Voters can also register to vote at the polls and cast a provisional ballot.
Visit the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal to register, check your registration status, or apply to receive an absentee ballot by mail. The department of elections website also offers information on the what identification to bring with you to the polls.
Starting June 18, voters can cast ballots at three polling locations, with 13 additional polling locations opening on July 25.
