MOUNT VERNON, VA — Teams representing Fairfax County's two public safety departments squared off Sunday in the Fifth Annual Battle of the Badges hockey game, raising $5,000 to benefit police and firefighter charities.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue team defeated Fairfax County Police Department squad, 3-2, in the afternoon game at the Mount Vernon Ice Arena in Alexandria.
Although admission to the game was free, donations were accepted to benefit the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and the Officer Down Memorial Page.
Aside from raising money for charity, the annual event is a opportunity to highlight the friendship and collaboration that exists between the county's two public safety departments.
"The synergy between our teams proves that when we lead together, the community wins," Police Chief Kevin Davis said, in a post on X. "FD and PD Chiefs could take a page from our model. This is how you get things done."
