• Lillie Tennessee Day Reynolds, 85, of New Castle, Va., went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 21, 2026. She was born on December 15, 1940, to the late Burley and Ollie Horn Day. (newcastlerecord.com) — New Castle and Craig County residents are mourning Lillie Tennessee "Grandma T" Day Reynolds, a beloved longtime seamstress and community figure who passed away at 85. Remembered for her independence and deep local roots, she will be laid to rest privately in the Day Family Cemetery in New Castle, with memorial gifts requested for the Craig County Volunteer Rescue Squad.
• FROM THE ARCHIVES: Library dream becomes a reality From the March 17, 2004 edition of The New Castle Record (newcastlerecord.com) — New Castle readers get a look back at how a determined local Girl Scout, Caitlyn Day, helped turn Craig County's long-held dream of a public library into reality in downtown New Castle. The story revisits her years of fundraising, book collecting, and building renovations, along with the community volunteers and church groups who transformed the historic Eans Building into a much‑needed library space.
• Classic Car Club members call Craig County trip a highlight of Roanoke visit (newcastlerecord.com) — New Castle residents recently saw about 40 rare, hand-built classic cars roll through town as part of a Classic Car Club of America tour. Visitors shopped at the Emporium, explored the historic district, and enjoyed hospitality from the Craig County Historical Society before continuing on a scenic route through Paint Bank and beyond, which many called the highlight of their Roanoke-area stay.
