• New Kent locals launch direct primary care clinic in their home county (richmondbizsense.com) — A new direct primary care clinic, New Kent Direct Care, is opening this month in Quinton, giving New Kent residents another much‑needed option for local medical care. Founded by New Kent locals and backed by a county economic development grant, the membership-based practice will offer longer visits, quick appointments, and direct access to providers for patients ages 13 and up.
• Legislation to Force Virginia Traffic Camera Fine Payments Will Make 'Nightmarish' Court Workloads (royalexaminer.com) — New Kent drivers are at the center of Virginia's debate over unpaid traffic camera fines, with more than 71,000 citations issued and about 35,000 still unpaid. A new state law taking effect Jan. 1 will push courts and the DMV to crack down on nonpayers, potentially affecting license plate renewals and straining already overburdened court staff.
• VCU School of Education receives $7.2 million grant for student mental health support (vcu.edu) — New Kent County Public Schools will share in a five‑year, $7.2 million federal Project AWARE grant aimed at strengthening student mental health support. Working with VCU's School of Education, New Kent educators and community partners will help design tailored systems to improve prevention, screening, referrals, and long‑term access to behavioral health services for local students and families.
