Her new security camera, installed after a nearby shooting, captured the latest incident and even local wildlife. Newport News police are investigating and warning that this kind of behavior is dangerous for everyone involved.

2. John F. Kennedy completes acceptance sea trials (workboat.com) โ Newport News Shipbuilding has finished acceptance sea trials for the future USS John F. Kennedy, with the carrier now back at the Newport News yard after extensive at-sea testing. Navy inspectors used the trials to gauge the ship's readiness before delivery, and the next step will allow more underway testing of its systems. This marks a key milestone for the city's shipbuilding workforce.

3. Sailor faces murder charge in fatal shooting of another sailor (13newsnow.com) โ A sailor assigned to the future USS John F. Kennedy is charged in the June 6 shooting death of another sailor aboard the carrier at Newport News Shipbuilding. Naval investigators say the victim died after being shot with a service pistol, and the accused also faces assault and reckless endangerment charges from earlier alleged incidents. The investigation remains active.

Virginia sees record train ridership as passenger rail expands (wavy.com) โ Passenger rail lines that link Newport News with Washington, D.C., Richmond, and other cities are seeing record ridership as Virginia pours billions into expanding Amtrak-supported service. A new report shows trips on the four state-backed routes have more than doubled since last year and surpassed pre-pandemic records. Planned expansions could eventually add new connections across the state and into North Carolina.
