1. 9/11 photo exhibit opens at Virginia War Museum (wydaily.com) β Newport News residents can mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11 at the Virginia War Museum, where a new photo exhibit opens Sept. 11 featuring 21 powerful images by photographer Vernon L. Carter. Running through Oct. 31, the show invites visitors to reflect on the attacks' legacy and even add their own written memories to a companion archival project, all included with regular admission.

Virginia Amtrak passengers face will nine-day service disruption in October (wydaily.com) β If you're taking Amtrak from Newport News to Washington, D.C., between Oct. 16 and 26, expect to ride a bus for part of the trip while crews replace aging track equipment near Union Station. Trains from Hampton Roads, including Newport News, will terminate in Alexandria, with an Amtrak Virginia Express Bus and Bus Bridge keeping passengers connected and offering penalty-free changes when needed.

3. Busch Gardens interviews held for those with transportation challenges (dailypress.com) β Young Newport News residents facing transportation challenges can interview locally this Saturday for fall and winter jobs at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, with positions in rides and food service. The Peninsula Youth Collaborative and Hampton Roads Workforce Council will also connect hired workers with ongoing transportation between Newport News and the park. Applicants must apply online in advance and select an interview time.

Josh Spencer named Lionsbridge Football Club sporting director and head coach (wavy.com) β Newport News soccer fans will see a familiar face leading Lionsbridge Football Club, as longtime player and coach Josh Spencer steps into a multi-year role as sporting director and head coach. He'll guide the Newport News-based club's technical direction and expanding youth programs as it approaches its 10th anniversary season in 2027, aiming to compete for championships and deepen community ties.
