1. 21-year-old man arrested in connection with deadly shooting on Jefferson Avenue (wtkr.com) — Newport News police have arrested a 21-year-old Hampton man in connection with a deadly shooting Monday night on the 1000 block of Jefferson Avenue, where a 39-year-old victim died at the scene. Investigators are still piecing together what happened and are asking anyone with information to call 911 or the department's non-emergency line.
2. Man sentenced to 12 years for armed bank robbery in Newport News (wavy.com) — A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for twice robbing the Truist Bank on Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News, once while displaying a firearm. He used threatening notes to demand cash, was later identified from surveillance images, and arrested in early November, bringing closure to a frightening series of incidents for local bank staff and neighbors.
3. HII Receives $336M Advance Procurement Contract for Future Ford-Class Carrier (thedefensepost.com) — Newport News shipbuilders at Huntington Ingalls Industries just secured a $336 million Navy contract to start buying key materials for the future aircraft carrier USS William J. Clinton. The long-term work, expected to run through 2039, helps lock in decades of skilled jobs in Newport News while advancing the Ford-class carrier program that replaces older Nimitz-class ships.
4. Jury selection underway for 2017 murder case of Hampton mom, baby (wavy.com) — Jury selection is underway in Newport News for the trial of a man accused of killing his infant daughter and her mother, whose car was later found abandoned in the city. The Hampton pair disappeared in 2017, and although their bodies haven't been found, Newport News police arrested the child's father in 2025; opening statements are expected to begin Friday.
