Today's riddle: What do evil hens lay? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Black Farmers Market Brings The Farm To The City (thenewjournalandguide.com) — Norfolk's Berkeley community now hosts a twice-monthly Black Farmers Market outside E. Palmer Supermarket, bringing fresh produce, juices and handmade goods directly into the neighborhood through November. Led by the Mid-Atlantic Black Farmers Market network, the market connects residents with regional Black farmers, emphasizes healthy, seasonal food and keeps more dollars circulating in local Black-owned businesses.
2. Virginia casinos generate $102.48m in July revenue (focusgn.com) — Norfolk's interim gaming hall brought in about $885,000 in adjusted gaming revenue in July, all from its 132 slot machines, as part of a statewide casino total topping $102 million. The temporary facility, open since late 2025, continues operating without table games while Virginia's casino market grows.
3. Online Worship Expands Churches' Reach Beyond Sanctuary Walls (metrovoicenews.com) — A Norfolk congregation at Kingdom Embassy Ministries is blending in-person worship with robust online services to keep local members, including seniors, connected while reaching viewers as far away as Tanzania. Church leaders say digital tools help draw people into the Norfolk sanctuary rather than replace gathering together.
4. Admirals re-sign Hebert (prohockeynews.com) — Norfolk hockey fans can look forward to another season with forward Grant Hebert, who has re-signed with the Norfolk Admirals for 2026-27 after a breakout year. The 27-year-old posted career highs across the board last season and previously played in Canada, Europe, and the ECHL before landing in Norfolk.
5. Virginia sees record train ridership as passenger rail expands (wavy.com) — Norfolk riders are part of a record surge in Virginia's state-supported Amtrak routes, which link the city to Washington, D.C. and points north. Expanded service, renovated stations, and major state investment have helped more than double ridership on all four key lines compared with last year.
