• Norfolk's Neon Festival to be replaced with year-round event series (pilotonline.com) — Norfolk's long-running Neon Festival is being retired and replaced by Neon Nights, a year-round series of smaller, indoor art events starting October 16 in the Neon District. Organized by the Downtown Norfolk Council, the new format aims to boost struggling Granby Street businesses and is currently seeking artists with small grants available for installations and performances.
   

• A new superintendent with a new plan to improve Norfolk Public Schools (wavy.com) — Norfolk's new school superintendent Jeff Rose is rolling out a community-wide campaign to boost test scores, graduation rates, and pride in Norfolk Public Schools, starting as classes reopen next week. He plans listening sessions across the city this fall, asking parents, churches, nonprofits, businesses, and military partners to help shape a shared plan for student success.
   

• 'We miss you, Tony': Norfolk art community remembers man shot, killed in Ghent (wtkr.com) — Friends and fellow artists in Norfolk gathered in Ghent to honor 31-year-old Tony Camarillo, a connector in the local arts scene who was shot and killed near Colley and Spotswood avenues. As the community grieves and remembers his creativity and kindness, Norfolk police continue searching for a suspect identified as 30-year-old Skyler R. Brock of Seaford.
