• 'Nonstop' Power Outages Reported in 1,600-Home Military Housing Near Naval Station Norfolk (military.com) — Military families living in Liberty Military Housing near Naval Station Norfolk are facing repeated, hours-long power outages that have spoiled food and left homes without air conditioning, with officials blaming faults in Navy-maintained electrical infrastructure. Naval Station Norfolk says storms and damaged cables are to blame and has added Willoughby Housing to a voluntary evacuation list while repairs continue, affecting nearby Norfolk neighborhoods like Ghent and downtown.
• 'Is my child breathing?' Norfolk mom shares her story after son hit in hit-and-run (wtkr.com) — A Norfolk mother is pleading for safer streets after her young son was critically injured in a hit-and-run while crossing West 40th Street near Old Dominion University. Police say they've arrested an 18-year-old driver, while the child remains on a ventilator at CHKD and his family calls for traffic-calming steps like speed bumps in their neighborhood.
• A visiting nurse program supplements postpartum care for Hampton Roads military families (wvtf.org) — Military parents based at Naval Station Norfolk and across Hampton Roads can get free in-home postpartum support from the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society's Visiting Nurse Program, which sends registered nurses to check on parents' recovery and babies' growth. Three nurses cover Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, offering longer visits, breastfeeding help and mental health screening to ease the transition after birth.
