Norfolk Begins Construction on Elizabeth River Ferry Dock (hamptonroadsmessenger.com) β Ferry riders in Norfolk should now use Harbor Park instead of Waterside while the city rebuilds the Elizabeth River Ferry dock, with shuttle buses and light rail honoring ferry fares to reach downtown. Service will run about every 45 minutes, and Tides game tickets still qualify fans for free ferry rides from Portsmouth.

2. Norfolk casino construction near Harbor Park remains on track for 2027 opening (13newsnow.com) β Construction of Norfolk's $750 million casino near Harbor Park is on schedule, with the resort expected to open in late 2027 and eventually create more than 800 permanent jobs. More than 300 workers are currently on-site daily, building the parking garage, hotel, and 65,000-square-foot gaming floor that will anchor a major new waterfront entertainment destination for city residents and visitors.

3. ODU Inn along Hampton Boulevard in Norfolk getting new life as police, public safety headquarters (wtkr.com) β Norfolk residents near ODU will see the former ODU Inn on Hampton Boulevard transformed into a 25,000-square-foot headquarters for university police and public safety by 2027. The renovated building will consolidate the 911 center, emergency management, and community meeting space, supporting ODU's shared jurisdiction with the city in neighborhoods like Lamberts Point, Larchmont and Highland Park.

4. Man arrested in connection with Norfolk sign vandalism (13newsnow.com) β Norfolk police have arrested a 23-year-old man after multiple businesses and street signs along the 800β1100 blocks of North Military Highway were hit with graffiti earlier this week. Several well-known stores, including Chipotle, Lowe's and Northern Tool, were damaged, and the city now plans to remove and replace aging signs that can't be safely cleaned.

5. Two schools will win Virginia Lottery lounge makeovers, nominate your favorite now (wavy.com) β Virginia residents can now nominate any public K-12 school, including those in Norfolk, for a $10,000 Virginia Lottery teachers' lounge makeover through October 6. Last year, Suburban Park Elementary in Norfolk received new furniture, appliances, and decor, and two more schools will be randomly selected for similar upgrades this fall.
