β’ West Springfield community equips school crosswalk with new safety tools (ffxnow.com) β Oakton High School is one of 10 Fairfax County high schools where crossing guards were briefly cut, then temporarily reinstated after safety concerns and a student was struck near South Lakes. While West Springfield parents installed orange flag buckets as a stopgap, county leaders now face pressure to permanently restore crossing guard funding and accelerate traffic-signal improvements.
