Alexandria Passes 2027 Budget, Some Fee Increases

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria’s City Council passed the city’s $979.1 million operating budget for fiscal year 2027 on April 29 in a unanimous vote. It represents a 2.2 percent increase from the prior year, according to the city.

Most key city tax rates will remain unchanged, with exception of the stormwater utility fee rate, which will rise from $340.30 to $357.40 as scheduled, and a 5 cent increase in the business licensing tax rate.

The city schools’ budget increased by 1.5 percent, the third year of the labor and trades collective bargaining agreement was fully funded as were all agreements in their first year, and staff who aren’t covered by collective bargaining agreements will get a step increase and 1.5% pay scale adjustment.

The council also agreed on a number of fee resolutions, including increasing group visiting fees for many city museums, increasing fees associated with using city parks and docks, and raising parking meter hourly rates by a dollar, to $2.75 an hour.
