Alexandria School Board Approves New Police Partnership Agreement: Report

Alexandria's school board unanimously approved the long-negotiated new agreement.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria City School Board has approved a new agreement governing how city schools interact with the Alexandria Police Department, the Alexandria Brief reports.

According to the Alexandria Brief, the board unanimously approved the latest changes Thursday and will now send the 2026-2028 Memorandum of Understanding to the City Council and Alexandria’s police for their action.

The new agreement regulates how School Resource Officers at the city’s high school and middle schools are able to interact with students and solicit and share information.

Two changes were made since the document was last discussed, according to the report: one giving principals a threshold beyond which to involve law enforcement in cases of drug or alcohol possession, the other protecting children from exclusion from school or activities based on their parents’ real or perceived immigration status.
