ALEXANDRIA, VA – Applications for new affordable rental units and affordable condos for purchase will open this month, according to the Alexandria City Government.
New affordable rental units
Applications for 94 available rental units at Witter Place Apartments will be accepted starting May 14.
The rental community located at 2712 Duke Street will have 2- and 3-bedroom units available, 10 of which will be mobility accessible. Applicants’ total monthly income must be at least 2.5 times the monthly rent and at most 60 percent of the area median income. For 2025, the AMI for a single person was $114,800. There is also a minimum income requirement: an applicant’s total household income must be at a minimum 2.5 times the monthly rent. Depending on income, rent for a 2-bedroom unit ranges from $1,177 a month to $1,832 a month. For three bedrooms, the range is $1,351 to $2,109. The city cautions that these rates could change depending on federal guidelines.
Units are expected to be available by September.
New affordable condos
For prospective homebuyers, the city has announced an affordable condominium program at the Residences of Tidelock, a new community at 1111 N. Fairfax Street. The 65-unit condo community will have 4 affordable condominium units: a 1-bedroom unit, a 1-bedroom plus den, and 2 2-bedroom units. One of the 2-bedroom units will be mobility accessible.
The units will be available for first-time homebuyers who live or work in Alexandria and earn 100 percent or less of the AMI.
Applications will be accepted between May 23 and June 22. Eligible applicants will then be entered into a lottery.
The community is expected to open in May.
