ALEXANDRIA, VA – Damontie Earl James, 27, has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of his former roommate, according to reports.
ALX Now reports that James was found guilty on Tuesday of manslaughter in the shooting death of Kory Anding, 29, in October 2025. The shooting occurred at James’ sister’s apartment at 3450 Berkeley Street. Anding was the father of two children with James’ sister.
James was also found guilty of malicious shooting in an occupied building, but not guilty of using a firearm in the commission of murder.
James pleaded not guilty and claimed he acted in self-defense.
According to ALX Now, James and Anding had had at least one violent interaction a few years before the shooting and Anding was actually legally barred from being near James’ sister or her property. On the night of the shooting, both Anding and James accused each other of violence.
