ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria government is proposing a new pocket park for Del Ray.
The city wants to transform an existing parking island at 3000 Fulton Street into a green space. According to the city, the project “aims to improve walkability, strengthen neighborhood connections, expand access to open space, and provide environmental benefits through added trees and green infrastructure.”
Specifically, in addition to adding character and protecting pedestrians, city officials say the park will improve stormwater absorption and help keep the city cool by replacing pavement with grass and trees.
An introductory meeting on the proposal is planned at the park site on June 11 from 6-7 p.m., with a follow-up meeting on June 16.
More about the project, including photos of the site, can be found here.
