Backyard Fire Feature Started Blaze That Left Home Uninhabitable: ALX Fire Marshal

ALEXANDRIA, VA – A “backyard fire feature” caused a house fire that left a residence uninhabitable, Alexandria’s Fire Marshal says.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to a fire on the 2000 block of Randolph Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. According to a statement from the department Thursday morning, the fire started accidentally when flames from a backyard fire feature spread to combustible materials nearby, reached the exterior of the house and finally spread to the interior.

Photos from the department show flames engulfing a backyard and fence, and damage to an exterior wall.

The fire was extinguished with help from the fire departments of Arlington and Fairfax counties, the department said.

No injuries were reported, but the home was seriously damaged and is currently uninhabitable. One resident is now displaced.
