ALEXANDRIA, VA – Mudhouse Specialty Coffee Roasters is opening a location in Alexandria in July, the coffee shop announced on its Instagram page.

The premium roasters made the announcement on Monday, and city residents are already excited, if the comments section is anything to go by. The new location will be at 1119 King Street.

The Old Town location joins four others in Virginia and one in South Carolina. Mudhouse was founded by John and Lynelle Lawrence in Charlottesville more than 20 years ago, “starting with a little cart on the mall and at our beautiful city farmers market,” the business's website says. Now, its locations offer beans, hot and iced coffee, pastries, sandwiches and more.

The owners say they look for organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest, 4C, and bird-friendly certifications, though it says not all its coffees fall into those categories. They pledge that Mudhouse has personally certified working and environmental conditions in its partners. Mudhouse says it looks to purchase from small farms where its business will have an impact. Its website also links to community organizations it has supported.
