DHS Identifies 2 Men Detained In Alexandria On Monday

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has identified two immigrants who were detained in Alexandria on Monday.

According to a DHS spokesperson, Wilfredo Colomo-Juarez and Franklin Gomez-Fuentes, both from Guatemala, were arrested on Monday in what it described as a targeted operation in Alexandria.

DHS said Colomo-Juarez has been removed from the U.S. twice before, once in 2004 and again in 2005. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal for him in December 2004. DHS says it doesn't know how long Gomez-Fuentes has been in the country.

According to DHS, Colomo-Juarez was previously convicted of stalking. He does not appear to have a criminal history under that name in Virginia. Patch has asked DHS for more details on the reported conviction.

Immigrant rights and community organization ICE Out of Alexandria reported the detention, saying the men were taken by masked agents from their work truck at a 7-Eleven store on West Glebe Road. The organization also said four other people were detained from a nearby apartment building off Florence Drive in Alexandria's Chirilagua neighborhood at 6 a.m. Saturday. DHS has not commented on those arrests.

ICE Out of Alexandria warned that people detained in Alexandria risk being taken to a for-profit detention center that has a decade-long history of reports of uncomfortable, unsanitary and unsafe conditions.

In neighboring Fairfax County, DHS and county officials are at odds over a video that shows an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent pointing a weapon at a U.S. citizen in her car in Falls Church, claiming she had tried to run him over. The woman says she has dashcam footage contradicting that claim. Congressman Don Beyer, who represents the district, criticized ICE for "habitual dishonesty" and said he would demand "answers and consequences."
